I am pleased to welcome you to the website of the Faculty of Science – Sohag University. The Faculty of Science was established in 5/12/1974 by ministerial decision No. 774 and began studying from the academic year 1975/1976 as one of the Faculties of the branch of Assiut University in Sohag, and then became one of the Faculties of the University of South Valley after its establishment in 1996 until it became independent University of Sohag in 2006. It is the first Faculty of the university and the third Faculty of sciences at the level of the Republic to receive accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance of Education and Accreditation in July 2012
The Faculty of Science has six Academic Departments; Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Geology. The study in the Faculty is four years. The Faculty grants a bachelor’s degree in basic science disciplines. The Faculty also grants MS. and Ph.D. degrees in various basic science disciplines. The Faculty aims to develop general competencies specializing in various fields of basic science by providing opportunities for research and training to acquire research and applied experiences to prepare cadres of academic specialists in the fields of scientific and educational research to cover the needs of higher and university education and scientific research centers within the country and abroad, conducting scientific research in basic and applied sciences to keep pace with scientific development and employ scientific research to serve the purposes of industry and development the continuous development of study programs to advance the level of competitive graduate in the labour market, providing excellent community services and scientific consultations that related to environmental and community problems, training and continuous improvement in the academic field to keep pace with the progress of science, collaborating with the regional and international research centers in various research fields to prepare a researcher with a distinctive applied thought capable of producing modern technology in addition to the development of the Faculty’s own resources.
The Faculty has a number of laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art research devices and a digital library, as well as a museum of zoology, a herbal and a geological museum to serve the educational process. In addition to teaching basic sciences to many different Faculties of the University of Sohag, including Faculty of Education, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Industrial Education, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Antiquities, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy.
The Faculty of Science provides academic and scientific consulting and innovative scientific research to solve the problems of the surrounding community. It also organizes training courses, seminars and lectures aimed at upgrading the scientific and technical skills of university staff and those interested in science and technology. The Faculty finds the Performance Evaluation and Quality Assurance Unit in preparation for international accreditation. The faculty produces many electronic courses and expands e-education and hybrid through the e-learning unit, so as to encourage distance learning and self-learning opportunities.
