The Department of Physics is one of the six departments included in the Faculty of Science in Sohag on the day it was established. It aimed to meet the needs of society in terms of physicists. Since then, it has been responsible for graduating and qualifying physicists that Sohag governorate needs in particular or the state needs in general in various institutions, including the university itself.

The Physics major is considered one of the main disciplines needed by the education sector as it enters into all aspects of practical and applied life. In recognition of the importance of the role of physics in understanding and developing the various branches of science and knowledge, the Department of Physics was established with the establishment of the College of Science in 1975 to play the desired role in teaching and scientific research. and community service.

The faculty members and their assistants in the Department of Physics reach 55 members on the job, representing most of the exact disciplines in physics, while the internally and externally seconded faculty members amount to 17 members, and the members of scholarships abroad to obtain master’s and doctoral degrees and scientific missions are 6 members.

The Department of Physics at the undergraduate level offered the Physics Program and the Physics and Chemistry Program and is currently in the process of approving the Biomedical Physics Program. The department teaches all departments of the College of Science, College of Education, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Engineering, College of Technology and Education, College of Archeology and College of Computers and Information. The department contains 11 student laboratories equipped with the latest experiments, tools and equipment. The department strives to develop curricula, courses and laboratories, as well as relying on modern teaching and evaluation methods.
