Community Service

The positive impact on society and the development of the surrounding environment is one of the most important goals of the Department of Botany and Microbiology, so the department pays special attention to community service and environmental development. In order to achieve this goal, the department’s administration puts all the human and technical capabilities in the department to serve the community and develop the surrounding environment with the aim of activating the department’s role in solving community problems and contributing to development issues.

In this context, the department’s research equipment is utilized to serve the various applications in the community.

Technical consultations are also provided to agencies, and individuals, and they participate in developing the capabilities and skills of individuals.

In addition to the above, raising awareness and spreading scientific culture among members of society.

The Department of Botany relies on the laboratory and technical capabilities available to it in its services provided to civil society and its contribution to the development of the surrounding environment.

Human capabilities, technologies and devices

in the department to serve the community and the surrounding environment

The Department of Botany and Microbiology has human capabilities, techniques and scientific equipment that enable it to participate effectively in serving the community and the surrounding environment through:

Central Laboratory of Genetic Engineering

The Central Laboratory for Genetic Engineering and Molecular Sciences analyzes biological samples at the molecular level by performing PCR and separating proteins with a number of specialized techniques such as Gel electrophoresis, DNA isolation, and many others, and providing all information related to these analyses.

The unit is considered one of the most important units at the level of the university and research centers in Sohag.

During the past year, a large number of samples were measured for various universities and institutes in the region, and many researchers were assisted in completing their research and scientific theses in various fields.

Tissue and plant cell culture laboratory

The Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory conducts research to improve the strains of some plants such as banana, jojoba, civetia, and others, through the use of modern technologies and devices.

Using tissue culture technology to produce plants that are more tolerant of environmental stressors such as salinity, drought, extreme heat, and others.

Department farm:

The department’s farm has been renovated and equipped to provide the department with the necessary samples for practical teaching, as well as to serve researchers for master’s and doctoral studies and research in various plant sub-disciplines.

Training field

The department can carry out the following activities:

Courses for teachers on virtual experiences of plant sciences and microbiology.

Bioinformatics courses.

Courses in plant cell and tissue culture.

Courses in mycotoxins.

courses in genetic engineering and modern agricultural techniques.

Providing scientific advice on microbial infections and plant diseases.

Holding seminars and public lectures to raise awareness of the importance of plant hormones and their agricultural applications.

Providing scientific consultations in the field of microbiology and various plant sciences
