Admission Requirements

  • Admission to the faculty requires a high school diploma in the scientific or mathematical tracks, or a combined scientific track, or its equivalent. Admission is granted through the Coordination Office, based on the faculty’s needs each year. Students are enrolled in one of the following general streams in the first year:
    1. Natural Sciences
    2. Geological Sciences
    3. Biological Sciences

Academic System

Studies during the undergraduate stage at Faculty of Science, Sohag University follow the credit hour system. Based on the recommendation of Faculty of Science Council, Sohag University awards a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in one of the following majors:

  • Single Major: All academic hours are allocated to one academic major.
  • Major/Minor: Approximately 75% of the credit hours are allocated to the major and approximately 25% to the minor.
  • Combined: Each major accounts for 50% of the total credit hours.

Duration and Levels of Study

The duration of study for a bachelor’s degree in faculty of science is determined once the student has successfully completed the required number of credit hours for graduation (136 hours). This duration is divided into four study levels, and the study levels are determined by the number of hours the student has successfully completed, as follows

Each level includes two compulsory semesters separated by a mid-year break. The two semesters are called the first semester (fall semester) and the second semester (spring semester), and each lasts seventeen weeks. A third intensive semester may be offered during the summer (summer semester) for eight weeks.
