About the Library

“A scientific, cultural, educational, and social institution. Its goal is to collect and develop information resources through various means (purchase, donation, exchange, and deposit), organize them (catalog, classify, and arrange them on shelves), retrieve them in the shortest possible time, and provide them to a diverse community of beneficiaries (readers and researchers) through a range of traditional services.

Such as lending, reference, periodical, photocopying services, and modern services such as current awareness services, selective dissemination of information, and other calculated services through human competencies qualified scientifically, technically, and technologically in the field of library and information science.

Library Information

– The library was established in 1976.
– It began operating on September 1, 1976.
– The library is located on the fourth floor of the services building, covering an area of approximately 500 square meters.
– The library consists of nine halls: six for the science departments (physics, mathematics, geology, zoology, chemistry, and botany), one for the University Theses Department, one for the Scientific Periodicals Department, and one for the Information Technology Club

“To be a pioneer in providing knowledge services and digital information technology at the Faculty of Science Library at Sohag University. The library’s mission and vision were approved by Faculty Council No. 390, held on November 18, 2013.”

Library Mission

” Faculty of Science Library at Sohag University is committed to providing educational and research knowledge resources to library patrons, supporting the faculty’s mission within the framework of achieving quality requirements and maintaining accreditation

Library Objectives:

  1.  Providing human knowledge resources to serve the university’s various academic disciplines.

. 2. Developing library systems in line with recent developments in library and information services

3.Providing information and library services to facilitate research and retrieval through publications, bibliographic indexes, guides, indexes, and more.

. 4.Exchanging the university’s publications with other universities and scientific institutions at home and abroad, and cooperating and coordinating with similar entities

5.Preparing introductory programs for students and staff members about the services provided and training to raise awareness of how to use available information resources and leverage existing resources.

. 6.Providing services to beneficiaries by responding to inquiries and fulfilling requests as quickly as possible
