My dear students, male and female, colleagues, and distinguished visitors, I am pleased to welcome you to the Faculty of Science website.
The faculty was founded in 1974 as part of Assiut University in Sohag. It then became part of South Valley University in 1996, and became independent with the establishment of Sohag University in 2006 the faculty obtained institutional accreditation in 2012 as the first faculty at the university and the third nationwide. Its accreditation was renewed in 2019, and it has also received ISO 9001 and 21001 certifications for three consecutive years: 2022, 2023, and 2024.
The faculty strives to achieve academic excellence locally, regionally, and internationally by developing its educational and research programs in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030. The faculty comprises six academic departments: Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, and Geology, in addition to five specialized programs: Molecular Biology and Parasitology, Mathematical Statistics and Programming, Molecular Biotechnology, Biochemistry, and Medical Biophysics. New programs are being prepared to keep pace with labor market requirements
The faculty also awards bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in various science disciplines.
It also provides community services and scientific consultations and collaborates with local and international research centers.
The staff members published nearly 500 research papers in the international journals in 2024 and have received local and international awards.
The faculty houses advanced laboratories, a digital library, and science museums, and participates in teaching basic sciences to other colleges at the university
