Dean of the faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs

Community engagement is one of the most important pillars through which the Faculty of Science, represented by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, aims to provide services to civil society. The faculty’s community engagement also contributes to achieving Sohag University’s mission of activating communication between the university and civil society institutions.
From this standpoint, the college works to link the scientific and academic side of the college with the various sectors of civil society, by offering study programs that are compatible with the needs of society and keep pace with the labor market, and by concluding many cooperation protocols to build bridges of communication and cooperation and achieve true partnership with community institutions.
The cooperation also includes the college conducting numerous field visits to various development sectors, the participation of external community entities in the activities implemented by the college, and the activation of student training services in relevant employment institutions to hone the graduate’s skills and prepare him for various work sites.

Community Participation Plan

  • Since its establishment in 1975, the Faculty of Science at Sohag University has played an active role in serving the community and developing the surrounding environment.
  • The faculty has undertaken a number of community initiatives that contribute effectively to meeting the needs of the surrounding community.
  • It also has played an influential role in the development of Sohag Governorate and the surrounding areas, and its role represents an important model for the role of universities in regional development.
  • The graduates’ students who are capable of joining the labor market and playing a role in various development projects, whether in Sohag Governorate or other governorates.
  • The faculty’s various departments also provide research and advisory services through the participation of the staff members in various development projects.
  • The faculty also carries out numerous awareness-raising activities on community issues and invites various community institutions to attend these activities.
  • In this context, the faculty, through the academic supervision of the staff members and students, has provided numerous recommendations, consultations, and proposals that have significantly contributed to solving a number of developmental problems. Whether through personal initiatives, master’s and doctoral theses, or research projects
  • Contributing to providing scientific consultations to a number of factories in Sohag Governorate.
  • Contributing to the evaluation of natural resources and mineral wealth around Sohag Governorate.
  • Contributing to the evaluation of water resources, particularly groundwater, and determining their quality and development methods.
  • Contributing to the scientific evaluation of major development projects, such as the Sohag-Red Sea Road and the construction of Sohag Airport.
  •  Contributing to identifying lands that can be reclaimed around Sohag Governorate.
  •  Implementing computer training programs and creating databases.
  •  Contributing to identifying natural environments and how to preserve them.
  •  Contributing to ways to support fish resources and protect them from pollution.
  • Contributing to community awareness programs about epidemics and how to avoid them.
  •  Contributing to environmental protection programs against pollution.
  • Contributing to enhancing the professional skills of employees in their fields of work.

Community Services Unit

The Community Services Unit was established at faculty of Science by faculty Council Resolution No. (331) dated 12/17/2008.

  • Encouraging self-financing and developing new ways to increase its financial resources.
  • Preparing project plans and applied studies that serve environmental issues and monitoring their implementation.
  • Coordinating with civil society organizations and various entities interested in the environmental and social issues
  • Monitoring the financial, administrative, and technical affairs of special units and conducting technical evaluations.
  • Following up the implementation of projects and consultations submitted to the faculty and monitoring their implementation.
  •  Maintaining a comprehensive inventory of all personnel, equipment, and devices in special units
  • Marketing the faculty’s community services through various means.
  • Preparing an electronic database of the college’s community contributions

Security, Safety, and Crisis Management Unit

Dr. Ali Muhammad Ali

The Security, Safety, and Crisis Management Unit was established as one of the outcomes of the Continuous Improvement and Accreditation Qualification Project, approved by College Council No. 333 on February 18, 2009.

  • Providing safety measures within the college.
  • Raising awareness of safety measures for all individuals through awareness training courses.
  • Crisis management within the college and training on how to handle crises.
  • Instilling civilized behaviour related to security, safety, and crisis management

Alumni Follow-up Unit

Dr. Naglaa Youssef

The Alumni Follow-up Unit was established as one of the outcomes of the Continuous Improvement and Accreditation Qualification Project, pursuant to College Council Resolution No. (328) of September 20, 2008.

  • Develop policies and plans to achieve the unit’s objectives.
  • Approve internal regulations governing the unit’s work.
  •  Preparing and implementing a plan of events and activities to train and qualify graduates, equipping them with the necessary skills and capabilities to compete in the job market.
  • Providing vocational training and employment opportunities for students and graduates through direct communication with private entities.
  •  Providing means for ongoing interaction with college graduates
  • Introducing graduates to professional bodies and professional examinations in their fields of specialization.
  • Introducing final-year students and graduates to various electronic platforms and tools for searching for vocational training and employment opportunities.
  • Providing the necessary data and statistics on graduates, particularly regarding employment rates.
  • Updating the unit’s website.
  • Concluding agreements with various employers that are compatible with faculty of Science graduates.
  • Preparing questionnaires in cooperation with the Quality Assurance
  • Unit for the unit’s activities to measure student and alumni satisfaction with the activities and events offered by the unit.
  • Activating social activities such as trips, seminars, etc., informing graduates and ensuring their participation in these activities so that there is continuous connection and communication between the graduates and the faculty.
  • Preparing questionnaires about the unit’s activities and analyze them to determine the degree of satisfaction and benefit of graduates and various employers with these activities, and working to improve the unit’s performance in light of the analysis.
  • Holding periodic meetings for graduates to follow up their practical achievements and resolve their practical problems (if any).
  •  Supervising, directing, and following up the implementation of the assigned tasks by the unit’s employees
  • Preparing reports about the unit’s activities
