About the Department

Chairman

Chairwoman’s Word

Welcome to the website of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science – Sohag University.

The Department of Chemistry was established in the Faculty of Science, Sohag University in 1975, since the beginning of the establishment of the Faculty of Science in Sohag. The Department of Chemistry works to achieve its mission emanating from the mission of the college and the mission of the university, in accordance with the strategic plan of the college and the university.

Where the department participates in the development of the educational process, scientific research and community participation in the Faculty of Science within the framework of achieving the goals of sustainable development in accordance with Egypt’s vision 2030.

The Department of Chemistry teaches chemistry courses with its various specializations for students of the Faculty of Science and the rest of the faculties of Sohag University, as the department has a group of gentlemen staff members with various scientific disciplines, which cover various fields of chemistry: analytical chemistry – colloids chemistry – kinetic chemistry – spectral chemistry and its applications – Chemistry of solids, catalysis and surfaces – Electrochemistry – Chemistry of laser spectra – Thermodynamics – Chemistry of materials – Inorganic chemistry – Theoretical chemistry – Biochemistry – Nanochemistry – Synthetic organic chemistry – Chemistry of natural products – Chemistry of dyes – Chemistry of polymers – Chemistry of new energy and Renewables – Environmental Chemistry –

The department works to develop its educational programs in line with scientific developments in the field of chemistry and its various applications and in accordance with the National Reference Academic Standards (NARS), which qualifies the graduate to compete strongly in the labor market in various fields such as companies, factories, research bodies, forensic medicine and Combating counterfeiting, counterfeiting, chemical warfare, and quality control of chemical and food products. The credit hours system is applied to the undergraduate level, and the list of postgraduate studies is being approved by the credit hours system as well.
